News and articles for the AMD Ryzen 7 1800X

Description of the processor

The AMD Ryzen 7 1800X is a processor from the first generation of AMDs Ryzen 7 family. It came onto the market in the first quarter of 2017 and is manufactured in a structure width of 14 nanometers in a monolithic chip design. It has a 16.00 megabyte level 3 cache and is based on the Summit Ridge (Zen) architecture. It comes from AMDs desktop segment and is designed for socket AM4 (PGA 1331).

The processor is composed of 8 identical processor cores and the core clock speed is 3.60 gigahertz. In turbo mode, the processor clock speed can increase to up to 4.00 gigahertz, but the maximum clock speed is only achieved when a single core is fully utilized; if all eight cores are fully utilized at the same time, the maximum turbo clock speed is still 3.80 Gigahertz. In addition, the AMD Ryzen 7 1800X supports Hyperthreading technology, which means it can have up to 16 computing threads available if required. It is also possible to overclock the processor, but this requires a slightly more complex processor cooling system.

An internal graphics unit is not integrated into the AMD Ryzen 7 1800X, so it must be operated with a dedicated graphics card. The processor has 20 PCIe lines in version 3.0 available for this purpose, of which the dedicated graphics card uses up to 16 lanes. The maximum bandwidth of the PCIe lanes is 19.7 GB/s.

The AMD Ryzen 7 1800X can be equipped with up to 64 gigabytes of RAM. It supports DDR4-2666 memory modules, which achieve a maximum memory bandwidth of 42.7 GB/s. In addition, the processor even supports ECC memory, which is memory with automatic error correction.

The thermal design power, abbreviated TDP, of the processor is 95 watts, which the manufacturer gives an indication of the cooling solution required.
