News and articles for the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G

Description of the processor

With the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G, the manufacturer AMD has a 6-core processor for the desktop market on offer. Thanks to the use of SMT, the processor can process up to 12 threads at the same time, which also enables it for more complex tasks. It clocks its CPU cores at 3.7 GHz, but can increase this clock to 4.2 GHz (Turbo). If only one CPU core is used, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G can clock it up to 4.4 GHz.

Like most of the newer AMD Ryzen desktop processors, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G is overclockable as long as the motherboard supports this function. Since the processor has an internal graphics unit (iGPU), this can also be overclocked if desired. Overclocking increases the frequency of the CPU or GPU, often with the addition of more electrical voltage. This increases the performance of the processor in some cases significantly. However, the energy consumption and the associated waste heat from the processor increase significantly. Therefore, you need a good cooling solution for overclocking, as the processor automatically lowers its clock frequency when it reaches a temperature that is too high.

The AMD Ryzen 5 5600G specifically uses the AMD Radeon 7 Graphics (Renoir) with 7 execution units and 448 shaders as the iGPU. The graphics card supports a maximum of 3 screens and has a maximum clock rate of 1.9 GHz. The graphics card may reserve a maximum of 2 GB of the main memory as graphics memory. Since the computing power of the graphics card is extremely dependent on a fast memory, it is recommended to use at least DDR4-3200 memory in dual-channel operation. Here, too, higher clock frequencies are possible depending on the mainboard.

The AMD Ryzen 5 5600G has a TDP of 65 watts and is therefore also suitable for smaller cases such as the ASRock DeskMini A300.
