The Intel Core i7-8550U is an eighth generation processor from the Intel Core i7 family from the American processor manufacturer Intel. It is based on the Kaby Lake U Refresh architecture and is manufactured with a structure width of 14 nanometers. The processor has an 8.00 megabyte level 3 cache and was launched by Intel in the third quarter of 2017.

The processor is manufactured in a monolithic chip design and is based on a normal core architecture with 4 identical processor cores. The four cores support Intels Hyperthreading technology, which provides the processor with up to 8 computing threads if required. The four processor cores have a basic clock frequency of 1.80 gigahertz and the maximum turbo clock is 4.00 gigahertz. However, this maximum turbo clock is only achieved when a single core is under load. If all four cores are fully utilized at the same time, the maximum clock only increases to up to 2.40 gigahertz.

The Intel Core i7-8550U is equipped with an internal graphics unit, with the Intel UHD Graphics 620 integrated here. This graphics unit has 24 execution units with 192 shaders and is able to supply up to 3 monitors with one image. The base clock frequency of the iGPU is 300 megahertz, which can increase to up to 1.15 gigahertz in turbo mode. Like the processor, the Intel UHD Graphics 620 is manufactured with a structure width of 14 nanometers and can use up to 16 gigabytes of the systems built-in RAM as graphics memory.

The Intel Core i7-8550U is equipped with 2 memory channels through which it can be operated with up to 32 gigabytes of DDR4-2400 RAM. It also has 12 PCIe lanes in version 3.0.
