Description of the processor

The AMD Ryzen 7 1700 comes from the first generation of Ryzen 7 processors that were launched in 2017. It is based on the Zen architecture codenamed Summit Ridge. The Summit Ridge processors are designed for the desktop area and are manufactured with a structure width of 14 nanometers. The AMD Ryzen 7 1700 is based on the newly introduced socket AM4 and has a 16 megabyte level 3 cache.

The AMD Ryzen 7 1700 consists of 8 physical cores and supports Hyperthreading technology. With this technology, if necessary, the 8 physical cores become 16 logical cores (threads), in order to be able to carry out twice as many computing tasks at once. However, this only works if the cores are loaded to a maximum of 50% with the current task.

The 8 cores clock at 3.00 gigahertz and can reach up to 3.70 gigahertz in turbo mode. However, the maximum turbo clock is only reached when a single core is loaded. If all cores are used at the same time, the clock still increases to up to 3.30 gigahertz. In addition, the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 can also be easily overclocked because it has a free multiplier. However, this requires special cooling, a standard fan is not sufficient for this.

The processor does not have an internal graphics unit, but it does have 20 PCI Express lanes in version 3.0. This can be used to connect a dedicated graphics card.

The AMD Ryzen 7 1700 officially supports DDR4-2666 modules as RAM. Slower modules are not a problem and DDR4 RAM can also be operated at a higher speed, but AMD does not guarantee this, so that the official recommendation is DDR4-2666 modules. The processor has 2 memory channels and supports the operation of up to 64 gigabytes of RAM.
