The processors from Intel's Core i3 series are the smallest of the Intel Core i series. The Intel Core i3 processors have at least 2 CPU cores, the more modern models have at least 4 CPU cores. In addition, the hyperthreading technology is supported, which doubles the maximum number of threads. Hyperthreading simulates additional CPU cores (so-called virtual cores), which ensure that the two physical cores are optimally utilized by inserting the next arithmetic operations into gaps in the first arithmetic operation. Depending on the application, the hyperthreading technology can increase performance by 0 to 40%.

The mobile processors of the Core i3 series are marked with an H, M, U or Y. Particularly economical desktop variants are marked with a T. The maximum clock frequency has been reduced here, which means that the processors are more economical but also slower. Overall, however, these are processors with the same quality and efficiency as the normal variants. The clock frequency can also be reduced manually with these and thus create a T variant of the CPU.

With processors from the Core i3 series, current games can be played smoothly at 1080p, but a dedicated (external) graphics card is required, since the Intel HD Graphics from the Core i series is not fast enough to display current games at sufficiently high frame rates.

Since earlier generations were equipped with a maximum of two CPU cores, Intel allowed them to address the main memory using the so-called ECC method. Assuming a compatible chipset and memory, the data integrity of a computer or small server could be significantly improved. However, since current Intel Core i 3 processors have at least 4 CPU cores and support Hyper-Threading, and thus represent a "danger" for the in-house Intel Xeon division (server CPUs), Intel has ECC support for the newer Intel Core i 3 CPUs removed again.
