News and articles for the AMD Ryzen 5 3600

Description of the processor

The AMD Ryzen 5 3600 is based on AMDs Zen 2 architecture, which is manufactured with a structure width of 7 nm. It has 6 physical cores and 12 logical cores thanks to Hyper-Threading. Due to the small structure, AMD is able to enable high clock rates despite the number of cores. The base clock is already 3.6 GHz, with multi-core load 4.0 GHz is possible as long as the processor is sufficiently cooled. In applications that can only use one CPU core, the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 can increase its clock frequency to 4.2 GHz.

The controller of the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 supports up to DDR4-3200 RAM in its two memory channels. This is the official release, but higher clock frequencies are also possible. The processor supports ECC error correction in the main memory. However, this means that the mainboard must also support ECC. This is rarely the case, especially with gaming motherboards.

Another innovation of the Zen 2 architecture is the support of PCIe 4.0. The AMD Ryzen 5 3600 can then connect external devices such as graphics cards with twice the bandwidth via its 16 PCIe lines. PCIe 4.0 is fully backward compatible with PCIe 3.0.

The AMD Ryzen 5 3600 has 32 MB level 3 cache and is approved for overclocking. His TDP budget is 65 watts. However, the processor can exceed this at the standard rate. Significantly higher loss values ??are possible with overclocking.

If you are toying with the purchase of the AMD Ryzen 5 3600, you should note that the processor, like all other Ryzen desktop processors, does not have integrated graphics. The installation of a dedicated graphics card is therefore mandatory.

The AMD Ryzen 5 3600 was presented in the third quarter of 2019 for the AM4 socket. However, if you want to use PCIe 4.0, you need an up-to-date mainboard, e.g. with an X570 chipset. Older chipsets support the Zen 2 processors, but cannot be used in PCIe 4.0 mode.
