News and articles for the AMD Ryzen 5 5500

Description of the processor

The AMD Ryzen 5 5500 is a six-core processor that supports AMDs SMT technology. SMT stands for Simultaneous Multi-Threading and enables the processor to process 2 threads simultaneously on one processor core. By using this technology, the AMD Ryzen 5 5500 can process a total of 12 threads in parallel, which has a positive effect in modern applications and games.

The base clock frequency of the AMD Ryzen 5 5500 is 3.6 GHz, in turbo mode the processor can increase its clock frequency up to 4.2 GHz as long as the power consumption and CPU temperature do not exceed a certain range.

The AMD Ryzen 5 5500 is based on AMDs Cezanne architecture, which is actually an APU technology that combines Zen 3 CPU cores with an RDNA-capable graphics unit (Renoir). Overall, the AMD Ryzen 5 5500 is similar to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G, but the internal graphics unit (iGPU) is completely deactivated in the AMD Ryzen 5 5500.

The TDP of the processor is 65 watts, but configurations below and above this specified limit are also possible. The AMD Ryzen 5 5500 supports 64 GB of DDR4-3200 memory in two memory channels and thus has a maximum memory bandwidth of approx. 51.2 GB per second. PCIe is supported in version 3.0 with up to 24 lines, the AMD Ryzen 5 5500 has to do without the newer PCIe 4.0 interface of the desktop Zen3 processors. Currently, however, PCIe 3.0 should also be fast enough not to slow down modern graphics cards.

The level 3 cache of the AMD Ryzen 5 5500 is 16 MB, here too the current pure desktop processors without iGPU offer twice as much cache. With 7 nm, the production is identical to the larger AMD processors, only the new AMD mobile processors of the AMD Ryzen 6000 series use the even more efficient 6 nm production.
