The Intel Celeron series is mostly based on the Intel Core i architecture. In contrast to the more expensive processors from the Intel Core i series, the Intel Celeron processors have fewer CPU cores and neither turbo mode nor hyperthreading. Some Intel Celeron processors are also based on the Intel Atom architecture, which is usually a bit slower but even more economical. Since the power output here can be very low, these processors can be cooled partially passively, which enables the construction of a whisper-quiet computer.

Intel Celeron processors are very cheap (from 35 euros for a desktop processor) and offer very good value for money. The processors are a bit slower than the Intel Pentium processors, which are priced between the Intel Celeron and the Intel Core i series. Intel Celeron processors are designed for average office work, surfing the web and checking e-mail. In addition, self-built NAS systems (or prefabricated systems) can also be equipped with an Intel Celeron processor. The performance is also sufficient to implement faster 10-Gbit network connections. Nevertheless, more expensive NAS systems rely on Intel Pentium or Intel Xeon processors, since these bring with them the possibility of virtualization.

The processors do not always come from the Intel Core architecture, but can also be based on the slower Intel Atom processors. It is therefore advisable to check the performance of the processor in advance. Most Intel Celeron processors are very economical and the ultra-mobile variants (marked with a U in the name) are also used in Chromebooks, e.g. the HP Chromebook 14. However, the processors are not used in normal ultrabooks or notebooks in the higher price segment. Manufacturers usually use processors from the Intel Core i5 and Intel Core i7 series.
