Description of the processor

The Intel Core i5-6600 was released by Intel in the third quarter of 2015. It is manufactured with a structure width of 14 nanometers, in a monolithic chip design and is based on Intels Skylake S architecture. The processor belongs to the sixth generation of the Intel Core i5 family and comes from Intels desktop segment.

The processor is made up of 4 processor cores and does not support hyperthreading. The four cores have a basic clock frequency of 3.30 gigahertz and the processors maximum turbo clock is 3.90 gigahertz. However, this maximum clock rate is only achieved when a single core is under load. If all four cores are fully utilized at the same time, the maximum clock rate is slightly lower at 3.60 gigahertz. The Intel Core i5-6600 does not have a free multiplier, so it cannot be overclocked.

The Intel Core i5-6600 can be operated with a dedicated graphics card; 16 PCIe lines in version 3.0 are available. However, it also has an internal graphics unit that can be used when high graphics performance is not required. The internal graphics unit called Intel HD Graphics 530 is integrated into the processor. This graphics unit has 24 execution units with 192 shaders and, like the processor, is manufactured using the 14 nanometer process. The base clock frequency of the Intel HD Graphics 530 is 350 megahertz and the maximum dynamic clock (turbo clock) is 1.15 gigahertz. It can use up to 32 gigabytes of the systems built-in RAM as graphics memory.

The processor has 2 memory channels through which it can be operated with up to 64 gigabytes of RAM. Here you can choose whether to use RAM type DDR3-1600 or DDR4-2133. The DDR3 memory achieves a maximum memory bandwidth of 25.6 GB/s, the newer DDR4 memory even 34.1 GB/s.
