Description of the processor

With the AMD Ryzen 5 6600H, AMD offers a fast mobile processor that is based on AMDs "Rembrandt" APUs. The Rembrandt APUs use optimized Zen 3 CPU cores, which are combined with RDNA2 graphics.

With 6 CPU cores and 12 threads, the AMD Ryzen 5 6600H is fast enough for most applications and computer games. Its six cores clock at 3.3 GHz; in Turbo mode, the processor can increase its clock frequency to up to 4.5 GHz.

The AMD Ryzen 5 6600H uses the AMD Radeon 660M as integrated graphics, which has 6 execution units with 384 shaders. With 1.5 TFLOPS, this iGPU is quite capable of playing older computer games in medium details. However, the graphics are too weak for current AAA games.

The AMD Radeon 660M can decode the new and free video codec AV1 via hardware, which can save battery life on notebooks because the graphics take over the video coding and thus significantly reduce the load on the CPU part.

The AMD Ryzen 5 6600H can address up to 64 GB of LPDDR5 or DDR5 RAM. In dual-channel mode using at least two memory modules and DDR5-4800 memory, the processor achieves a maximum memory bandwidth of 76.8 GB/s. Since the iGPU benefits greatly from fast RAM and the processor can often use even faster memory modules, an update to fast memory may be worthwhile.

Since the iGPU requires PCIe resources internally, the processor only has 12 PCIe 4.0 lines to connect external devices. However, it has been shown that external graphics cards with PCIe 4.0 x8 are not really slowed down, so this disadvantage is not too big.

The TDP of the AMD Ryzen 5 6600H is 45 watts, and the processor can also consume 54 watts of energy in the short term.
