Description of the processor

The Intel Core i5-1235U is a modern mobile processor for notebooks from Intel. The processor is based on the 12th generation of the Intel Core i series (Alder Lake) and has a hybrid core structure. Specifically, the Intel Core i5-1235U has two large CPU cores of the "Golden Cove" type and eight efficiency cores (Gracemont).

Due to the hybrid core structure, the Intel Core i5-1235U is very energy-efficient because only the CPU cores that are currently needed are used. The small efficiency cores take care of background tasks, for example, in order to relieve the load on the large CPU cores.

Since the two large Golden Cove CPU cores also support Intel Hyperthreading Technology, they can process two threads per core simultaneously, while the smaller CPU cores can only process one thread each. This gives the Intel Core i5-1235U a total of 10 CPU cores and 12 threads. Thats enough to get more complex tasks done quickly.

The Intel Iris Xe Graphics with 80 computing units and a total of 640 texture shaders is used as the iGPU (internal graphics unit) in the Intel Core i5-1235U. The clock frequency is 0.35 GHz in the base, but can be increased up to 1.2 GHz. With a raw processing power of about 1.5 GFLOPS, the iGPU is sufficient to play older games in medium resolutions.

However, more modern games then require a stronger, dedicated graphics card. Modern video codecs such as the free AV1 codec, which is already used on YouTube, are already supported in the hardware, which significantly extends the battery life in the notebook when playing corresponding videos.

Up to 64 GB of RAM can be connected to the system in 2 memory channels. In addition to DDR5-4800, LPDDR5-5200 memory is also supported. The maximum bandwidth is 76.8 GB/s.
