Description of the processor

The Intel Core i7-1260P is a 12-core, 20-thread processor that belongs to the 12th generation of Intel Core i processors. Like many CPUs from the Alder Lake generation, the Intel Core i7 processor has a hybrid core structure that includes 4 large "Golden Cove" performance cores. These are supported by 8 efficiency cores, which are smaller and therefore less powerful, but require significantly less energy.

Depending on the load on the computer, only a few of these CPU cores are actively used to save energy. The smaller cores can also take part in computing tasks that the larger CPU cores perform under high load. However, this requires a modern operating system such as Windows 11.

The Intel Core i7-1260P actually belongs to Intels U class, in which 15 watt CPUs are collected. In the past, these U processors could sometimes be supplied with significantly more energy, which has a major impact on computing power. Starting with the 12th generation of Intel Core i processors, Intel has now created the P class for better transparency in terms of CPU performance, which ranks between the 15 watt (U class) and 45 watt (H class) mobile processors.

P-class CPUs usually have a TDP of 28 watts and can even be operated with up to 64 watts in short load scenarios. This benefits the CPU performance as well as the performance when using the CPU and iGPU part at the same time.

An Intel Iris Xe graphics with a full 96 execution units is used as the iGPU in the Intel Core i7-1260P. With a theoretical FP32 computing power of 2.2 TFLOP/s, the internal graphics unit is also suitable for playing classic PC games smoothly in low to medium resolutions and details. The processor has a combined cache of 27 MB.
