V-Ray CPU-Render Benchmark

V-Ray is a 3D rendering software from the manufacturer Chaos for designers and artists. Unlike many other render engines, V-Ray is capable of so-called hybrid rendering, in which the CPU and GPU work together at the same time.

However, the CPU benchmark we used (CPU Render Mode) only uses the system's processor. The working memory used plays a major role in the V-Ray benchmark. For our benchmarks we use the fastest RAM standard approved by the manufacturer (without overclocking).

Due to the high compatibility of V-Ray (including Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, SketchUp, Unreal Engine and Blender), it is a frequently used software. With V-Ray, for example, photorealistic images can be rendered that laypeople cannot distinguish from normal photos.

Benchmarks

The Intel Core i9-10900K has 10 cores and 20 threads and is thus the top model of the Comet Lake S processors, which in turn introduce the 10th generation of Intel mainstream desktop processors. The processor can clock its 10 cores with up to 4.9 GHz. If only one core is used, a clock rate of up to 5.3 GHz is available - this is currently a record for clock rates in series.

The Comet Lake S processors are still manufactured in 14 nm and are therefore very energy-hungry (also due to the high clock rates). Thus, the Intel Core i9-10900K, which has an official TDP of 125 watts, consumes about 300 watts of energy with a load on all cores and an all-core Turbo of 4.9 GHz. That can currently only be cooled completely by water cooling systems. So, if you want to use the all-core Turbo at all times, you probably wont get around a water cooling system. Large air cooling systems are usually designed for a maximum of 250 watts.

The Intel Core i9-10900K can also be overclocked further. Since the energy consumption increases very quickly during overclocking, a very good cooling is also needed here.

The level 3 cache of the 10 core processor is 20 MB, Intel uses the Intel UHD Graphics 630 as internal graphics card, which is already known from the predecessor generation and doesnt bring any innovations.

The Intel Core i9-10900K can connect up to 128 GB DDR4-2933 working memory via its two memory channels. However, the processors memory controller should also be able to cope with faster working memory. The automatic error correction ECC is not supported.

The Comet Lake processors dont yet support PCIe 4.0 like AMDs Zen 2 processors. Therefore, only 16 PCIe 3.0 lines are directly available for the Intel Core i9-10900K. With the right chipset, these can be expanded to a total of 40 PCIe 3.0 lines for the whole system.

Leaderboards

In our leaderboards, we have clearly compiled the best processors for specific categories for you. The leaderboards are always up to date and are regularly updated by us. The best processors are selected according to popularity and speed in benchmarks as well as the price-performance ratio.
