V-Ray CPU-Render Benchmark

V-Ray is a 3D rendering software from the manufacturer Chaos for designers and artists. Unlike many other render engines, V-Ray is capable of so-called hybrid rendering, in which the CPU and GPU work together at the same time.

However, the CPU benchmark we used (CPU Render Mode) only uses the system's processor. The working memory used plays a major role in the V-Ray benchmark. For our benchmarks we use the fastest RAM standard approved by the manufacturer (without overclocking).

Due to the high compatibility of V-Ray (including Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, SketchUp, Unreal Engine and Blender), it is a frequently used software. With V-Ray, for example, photorealistic images can be rendered that laypeople cannot distinguish from normal photos.

Benchmarks

The Intel Core i7-12700H is a fast 12th generation Core i mobile processor from Intel. It has 14 CPU cores in a hybrid structure. One speaks of a hybrid structure in a processor if it has CPU cores of different sizes. In the case of the Intel Core i7-12700H, it has large P cores (performance) and smaller and therefore more efficient E cores (efficiency).

The clock frequency of the six large "Golden Cove" cores is 1.7 GHz, but can be increased to up to 4.7 GHz via the turbo mode. The eight smaller "Gracemont" CPU cores clock at 2.3 GHz. Here, too, the clock frequency can be increased to up to 3.5 GHz via the turbo mode.

While the 6 P cores support Hyper-Threading (2 threads per CPU core), the smaller E cores can only process 1 thread per CPU core at the same time. The total of 20 simultaneous threads of the Intel Core i7-12700H come about through this mixed configuration.

The Intel Iris Xe Graphics in the largest configuration with 96 units (768 shaders) is used as the iGPU (internal graphics). With 2.2 GFLOP/s, the graphics performance is quite decent and quite sufficient for medium-old games in low to medium resolutions. However, a dedicated graphics card is required for smooth playback of modern AAA titles.

The Intel Iris Xe can already decode the new AV1 codec (e.g. YouTube) in hardware. Many new processors like those from Apple or AMD cannot do this yet.

Up to 64 GB of DDR5-4800 or LPDDR5-5200 RAM is supported. In addition, the Intel Core i7-12700H offers the typical two memory channels (LPDDR5 = 4 half-width memory channels). The maximum bandwidth is 76.8 GB per second.

External devices such as a graphics card can be connected via PCIe 4.0 with up to 20 PCIe lines (16x and 4x).
