Description of the processor

The Intel Core i5-1245U is a mobile processor for notebooks from the manufacturer Intel. Its new CPU architecture, “Alder Lake U,” is based on a hybrid core layout in which CPU cores of different speeds are combined. The two larger CPU cores are called P-cores and are based on the "Golden Cove" architecture in the Intel Core i5-1245U.

The P-cores normally clock at 1.6 GHz, but the clock frequency of the P-cores can be increased to up to 4.4 GHz using Intel Turbo mode. In the Intel Core i5-1245U, the two P-cores are combined with eight smaller and more economical E-cores. These are based on Intels "Gracemont" CPU architecture, which comes from the Intel Atom processors.

The small E-cores clock at 1.2 GHz (maximum frequency in Turbo mode: 3.3 GHz), significantly slower than the P-cores, but they also require less energy, which should extend the battery life in notebooks.

The Intel Core i5-1245U has integrated graphics (iGPU). This is based on the Intel Core i5-1245U on the currently second largest expansion level of the Iris Xe graphics with 80 execution units and 640 texture shaders. The iGPU achieves an FP32 graphics performance of almost 1.5 TFLOPS and is therefore also suitable for one or two computer games.

Notebooks equipped with the Intel Core i5-1245U can be equipped with LPPDR4, LPDDR5 or DDR4 and DDR5 RAM. Competitor AMD also offers a large selection of RAM for its newer mobile processors in order to use the processors as flexibly as possible.

With LPDDR5-5200 memory, a maximum memory bandwidth of 83.2 GB/s is possible in the Intel Core i5-1245U. A maximum of 64 GB of RAM can be installed in the notebook. External devices such as an additional graphics card can be connected to the processor via the PCIe 4.0 interface with up to 28 lines.
