Description of the processor

The AMD Ryzen 7 1700X is an eight-core desktop processor from AMD from the 1st AMD Ryzen generation. The AMD Ryzen processors are a completely new development and are significantly faster than their predecessors.

The AMD Ryzen 7 1700X supports AMDs simultaneous multi-threading technology and can therefore process two threads per CPU core. The processor can process a maximum of 16 threads in parallel. The AMD Ryzen 7 1700X can also be overclocked, although the first AMD Ryzen generation still achieves quite low clock frequencies.

The base frequency of the processor is 3.4 GHz; in Turbo mode, the clock frequency of the AMD Ryzen 7 1700X can be dynamically increased to up to 3.8 GHz. The turbo frequency depends on energy consumption, load distribution and CPU temperature.

The new AMD Ryzen processors use the AMD socket AM4. The AMD Ryzen 7 1700X can address up to 64 GB of DDR4-2666 RAM. In dual-channel mode, memory bandwidths of up to 42.7 GB/s are possible. Faster RAM can be installed, but AMD does not guarantee that it will function properly.

External devices such as a fast M.2 SSD or a dedicated graphics card can be connected to the system via the PCIe bus. The AMD Ryzen 7 1700X supports PCIe 3.0 with up to 20 PCIe lines. The maximum PCI-Express memory bandwidth is 19.7 GB/s.

The TDP (Thermal Design Power) of the AMD Ryzen 7 1700X is 95 watts. When overclocked, the processor can absorb significantly more energy. The AMD Ryzen 7 1700X is still manufactured using a 14 nm process, so the energy consumption is only mediocre.

Equipped with 16 MB Level 3 cache, the AMD Ryzen 7 1700X has enough cache to not be slowed down in games. The publishing price was approximately $350 before taxes.
