Description of the processor

The Intel Core i3-1220P, introduced by Intel in early 2022, is a mobile processor with the “Alder Lake” architecture. This is the first to offer a hybrid CPU core layout. CPU cores of different sizes are combined in a hybrid layout. This simplifies production and is intended to minimize energy consumption.

The larger P-cores of the Intel Core i3-1220P are based on Intels "Golden Cove" architecture and are a further development of the CPU cores previously used in the Intel Core i series. They clock at 1.5 GHz and can increase their clock frequency up to 4.4 GHz in Turbo mode.

The smaller and more economical E-cores are based on Intels Atom CPU series "Gracemont". The clock frequency of the efficiency cores is 1.1 GHz and a maximum of 3.3 GHz in Turbo mode, well below the clock frequency of the P cores. Only the larger P-cores support Intels Hyper-Threading technology. The Intel Core i3-1220P supports a maximum of 12 threads at the same time.

The integrated graphics Intel Iris This is usually not enough for modern computer games. After all, the Intel Core i3-1220P can decode the new and free video codec AV1 in hardware via the iGPU, which can reduce the computing load when playing videos (e.g. YouTube) and thus extend the battery life of a notebook.

The Intel Core i3-1220P can address up to 64 GB of RAM. A large number of memory types are supported, from DDR4 to DDR5 as well as LPDDR4 and LPDDR5. In dual-channel mode, in which two memory modules are installed, the processor achieves a maximum memory bandwidth of 83.2 GB/s.

The TDP of the Intel Core i3-1220P is given as 28 watts, but at peak and with good cooling, the processor including the iGPU can consume up to 64 watts of power.
