The name of the AMD Ryzen 5 7520U should be carefully observed: this is not a modern processor with AMD's Zen 4 CPU cores, but rather the already aging Mendocino platform with Zen 2 cores. AMD was rightly criticized by the public for using a confusing naming scheme that belies the age of the processor.

The AMD Ryzen 5 7520U is still manufactured using a 6 nm process and therefore requires more energy than more modern mobile processors. The AMD Ryzen 7 7840U (Phoenix with Zen 4 cores), for example, is already manufactured using a 4 nm manufacturing process and is currently one of the most efficient mobile processors.

The Intel Core i5-1235U is based on the Alder Lake architecture and therefore has a hybrid core layout for the first time. Two fast P-cores (Golden Code) work together with 8 smaller and more efficient E-cores (Gracemont). Together, this results in 10 CPU cores and 12 threads, against which the 4 CPU cores (8 threads) of the AMD Ryzen 5 7520U have no chance.

At 4.4 GHz, the Intel Core i5-1235U has a similarly high clock frequency as the AMD Ryzen 5 7520U, which can clock its four CPU cores at a maximum of 4.3 GHz.

There is an even bigger difference in the graphics performance of the two processors.
