News and articles for the Intel Core i9-12900KS

Description of the processor

The Intel Core i9-12900KS is one of the most powerful consumer processors from Intel when it is released. The processor was launched in the second quarter of 2022 and is manufactured with a structure width of 10 nanometers.

The processor relies on a hybrid big.LITTLE core architecture and has a total of 16 cores. These are divided into 8 performance cores and 8 more efficient ones. The performance cores (Golden Cove) clock at up to 5.50 gigahertz and support hyperthreading, the efficiency cores (Gracemont) clock significantly lower at up to 4.00 gigahertz and they also do not support hyperthreading. Thus, the Intel Core i9-12900KS has 16 physical cores and 24 threads at its disposal. As can be seen from the "K" in the processor designation, this is a processor with a free multiplier, so that you can also overclock it with a correspondingly good cooling.

Without overclocking, the Intel Core i9-12900KS achieves a single-core score of 2082 points and a multi-core score of 27796 points in the current Cinebench (version R23).

Since such a processor is usually provided with a dedicated graphics card anyway, the decision was made to use a graphics unit for the internal graphics unit that actually does not match the processor in terms of performance. Intel has installed the Intel UHD Graphics 770 here, which clocks at up to 1.55 gigahertz and, with its 32 execution units and 256 shaders, achieves an FP32 computing power (single precision) of 794 GigaFLOPS.

The Intel Core i9-12900KS has 2 memory channels, which can be used to operate up to 128 gigabytes of DDR4-3200 or DDR5-4800 RAM. The maximum bandwidth of the working memory is 76.8 GB/s and working memory with automatic error correction (ECC working memory) is not supported by the processor.
