Description of the processor

The Intel Core i7-1265U is a mobile processor for notebooks based on Intels "Alder Lake U" CPU architecture. The 12th generation of Intel Core i processors is the first to use a hybrid architecture in which different sized CPU cores are used.

The two P-cores of the Intel Core i7-1265U are based on the "Golden Cove" architecture, which is also used in Intels larger desktop processors. The P cores offer a clock speed of 1.8 GHz (up to 4.8 GHz). The P-cores are supplemented by eight E-cores (Intel "Gracemont"), which are significantly slower than the P-cores, but work more energy-efficiently.

The E-cores of the Intel Core i7-1265U clock at 1.3 GHz (Turbo up to 3.6 GHz). They are mostly used for background tasks by the operating system to save energy. When there is a heavy computing load, they can also work together with the larger P-cores.

The integrated graphics are Intel Iris Xe Graphics 96. This iGPU is the largest expansion of the Intel Xe graphics. Its 96 execution units and 768 texture shaders achieve a computing power of 1.9 TFLOPS. This means that the graphics are also suitable for certain computer games in medium resolutions and levels of detail.

The Intel Core i7-1265U can address up to 64 GB of RAM, with support being very flexible. LPDDR4, LPDDR5 as well as the DDR4 and DDR5 RAM known from desktop systems are supported. If at least two memory modules are installed, the Intel Core i7-1265U achieves up to 83.2 GB/s of memory bandwidth in dual-channel mode.

External devices can be connected to the system via the PCIe 4.0 interface with up to 28 PCIe lines. Graphics cards, fast M.2 SSDs or external devices that are connected to the notebook via Intels Thunderbolt technology, for example, benefit from this.
