News and articles for the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X

Description of the processor

The AMD Ryzen 9 7900X is a dual-core processor from the latest AMD Ryzen 9 family. It uses the Zen4 architecture (Raphael) that AMD presented on August 29, 2022. For the first time since the introduction of AMD Ryzen processors, the Zen4 processors use a new socket, called AM5.

This socket enables improved power supply and stability of the processors, especially under high load on multiple CPU cores. Together with the new manufacturing process (TSMC 5 nm FinFET), significantly higher clock frequencies are possible.

The AMD Ryzen 9 7900X has a base clock of up to 4.7 GHz. Up to 5.6 GHz under load on one core is possible via AMD Precision Boost 2 (turbo mode). With a load on all CPU cores, the clock rate is similarly high at up to 5.4 GHz and ensures a very high overall processor performance.

AMD is installing integrated RDNA-2 graphics in its desktop processors for the first time, but with two execution units it is quite slow. It is only used for image output and makes it possible to build a Zen 4 computer without a dedicated graphics card. This can be a significant relief in many areas.

The AMD Ryzen 9 7900X supports up to 128 GB of DDR5-5200 RAM. With the new Ryzen 7000 processors, AMD introduced EXPO technology, a new overclocking function for the main memory. For example, the use of DDR5-6000 memory should be easy and problem-free.

In addition to DDR5 memory, the new processors also support the interface version PCIe 5.0, which doubles the bandwidth compared to its predecessor. Depending on the motherboard chipset, 16 to 20 PCIe 5.0 lines are available to connect a dedicated graphics card or a fast PCIe 5.0 M.2 SSD.

The ISA extension AVX512 is also supported by the Ryzen 7000 processors.
