Description of the processor

The Intel Core i7-14700K belongs to the 14th generation of Intel Core i processors "Raptor Lake Refresh" from Intel. The revision of the 14th generation is generally very marginal; for most processors only the clock frequency has increased by 200 MHz.

The Intel Core i7-14700K makes an exception here, because compared to the previous model, the Intel Core i7-13700K, the new Intel Core i7-14700K now has 12 E-cores instead of 8 E-cores. In total, the Intel Core i7-14700K now has 20 cores and 28 threads. This means that the processor is no longer far away from the Intel Core i9-13900K.

With the increase in the number of cores, the cache of the Intel Core i7-14700K has also increased. It now has 28 MB Level 2 cache and 33 MB Level 3 cache. Thats a total of 7 MB more cache than the previous model.

Nothing has changed with the RAM. 192 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM is still officially supported. Unofficially, Intel processors are known to be very fast when it comes to the internal memory controller. High clock frequencies of DDR5-7200+ are certainly achievable with most CPUs.

With DDR5-5600 memory, a memory bandwidth of 89.6 GB/s is achieved provided at least two memory modules are used in dual-channel mode. The processor has 20 free PCIe 5.0 lines, which can, for example, connect a dedicated graphics card and a fast M.2 SSD directly to the CPU. Additional PCIe services can be connected via the respective mainboard chipset.

The TDP of the processor is 125 watts, but the processor also permanently uses its PL2 with almost 250 watts, provided the mainboard or CPU cooling allows this. A very powerful CPU air cooler or at least a 240 AIO water cooling system is required for maximum performance.
