Geekbench 6 is a benchmark for modern computers, notebooks and smartphones. What is new is an optimized utilization of newer CPU architectures, e.g. based on the big.LITTLE concept and combining CPU cores of different sizes. The single-core benchmark only evaluates the performance of the fastest CPU core, the number of CPU cores in a processor is irrelevant here.

V-Ray CPU-Render Benchmark

V-Ray is a 3D rendering software from the manufacturer Chaos for designers and artists. Unlike many other render engines, V-Ray is capable of so-called hybrid rendering, in which the CPU and GPU work together at the same time.

However, the CPU benchmark we used (CPU Render Mode) only uses the system's processor. The working memory used plays a major role in the V-Ray benchmark. For our benchmarks we use the fastest RAM standard approved by the manufacturer (without overclocking).

Due to the high compatibility of V-Ray (including Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, SketchUp, Unreal Engine and Blender), it is a frequently used software. With V-Ray, for example, photorealistic images can be rendered that laypeople cannot distinguish from normal photos.

Benchmarks

The Intel Core i5-6600K is a sixth generation Intel Core i5 processor. The processor has 5 physical cores with a base clock of 3.50 gigahertz each. If all cores are fully utilized, the turbo mode is activated, which increases the clock frequency to up to 3.60 gigahertz. When a single core is fully utilized, the clock even rises to 3.90 gigahertz.

The “K” at the end of the processor name tells us that the processor can be overclocked. For this, however, a special cooling is necessary, the standard cooler that Intel supplies in the "boxed" version is not sufficient for this. Furthermore, the housing must also be designed in such a way that the resulting heat is optimally conducted out of the housing. Intels hyperthreading technology is not supported by the Intel Core i5-6600K.

The processor has the "Intel HD Graphics 530" from the ninth generation of Intels graphics units. This graphics unit has a base clock frequency of 350 megahertz and a maximum dynamic clock frequency (turbo mode) of up to 1.15 gigahertz. The GPU of the Intel Core i5-6600K enables a maximum resolution of 4096 x 2304 @ 60Hz via the DisplayPort and at least 4096 x 2304 @ 24Hz via HDMI. With its 24 execution units, the graphics unit supports Microsofts DirectX version 12.0 and the open programming interface "OpenGL" version 4.5.

In the main memory, the processor supports DDR3 main memory modules with up to 1600 megahertz and DDR4 main memory modules with up to 2133 megahertz. Which RAM can be installed depends on the selected mainboard. PCI-Express is integrated in version 3.0.

The 14-nanometer Intel Core i5-6600K was released in the third quarter of 2015 and is based on Intels "Skylake" architecture.
