Description of the processor

The Intel Xeon E3-1231 v3 is a server processor based on Intels "Haswell" architecture. It is installed in servers, but also in workstations and occasionally also in desktop systems. The Intel Xeon E3-1231 v3 has 4 CPU cores, Intels Hyper-Threading technology is supported. In total, the processor can process up to 8 threads in parallel.

The normal clock frequency of the Intel Xeon E3-1231 v3 is 3.4 GHz. In Turbo mode, the processor can variably adjust or increase its clock frequencies. The maximum turbo frequency is 3.8 GHz. This can be achieved as long as the CPU temperature and the processors power supply allow it.

The Intel Xeon E3-1231 v3 supports up to 32 GB of DDR3-1600 memory. In dual-channel mode, in which at least two memory modules must be installed, a maximum of 25.6 GB/s of memory bandwidth is achieved. In single-channel mode this value is half.

The automatic memory error correction ECC is supported by the Intel Xeon E3-1231 v3. For perfect ECC functionality, in addition to the processor, both the mainboard and the memory must be enabled for ECC.

The Intel Xeon E3-1231 v3 can address external devices such as a dedicated graphics card via the PCIe 3.0 standard with a maximum of 16 PCIe lines. The maximum PCIe bandwidth is 15.8 GB/s.

The TDP of the processor is 80 watts. In Turbo mode, this limit can be exceeded for a certain period of time. The Intel Xeon E3-1231 v3 is manufactured at Intel using a 22 nm manufacturing process. The socket used by the Intel Xeon E3-1231 v3 is the desktop socket LGA 1150 which is also used in many other mainstream processors from Intel. For this reason, the Intel Xeon E3-1231 v3 occasionally finds its way into a normal desktop system.
