V-Ray CPU-Render Benchmark

V-Ray is a 3D rendering software from the manufacturer Chaos for designers and artists. Unlike many other render engines, V-Ray is capable of so-called hybrid rendering, in which the CPU and GPU work together at the same time.

However, the CPU benchmark we used (CPU Render Mode) only uses the system's processor. The working memory used plays a major role in the V-Ray benchmark. For our benchmarks we use the fastest RAM standard approved by the manufacturer (without overclocking).

Due to the high compatibility of V-Ray (including Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, SketchUp, Unreal Engine and Blender), it is a frequently used software. With V-Ray, for example, photorealistic images can be rendered that laypeople cannot distinguish from normal photos.

The Intel Core i5-12600K is a 10-core processor from Intel. It is based on the 12th generation of the American chip manufacturers Core-i series and is based on a hybrid chip layout for the first time in the mainstream segment. Specifically, the processor has 10 CPU cores, which are divided into 6 performance cores (architecture: Golden Cove) and 4 energy-efficient CPU cores (Gracemont).

This hybrid division of CPU cores primarily offers advantages when it comes to the energy consumption of the chip. Hybrid chips with CPU cores of different sizes have been used in smartphones and tablets for years. With the Apple M1, Apple was the first major manufacturer to use a hybrid chip design. Up until then, Intel had already made initial attempts with two hybrid notebook chips, but had only produced them in extremely small quantities.

In contrast to Apples M1 processor, however, the Intel Core i5-12600K continues to rely on an x86-64 instruction set, while Apple wants to switch completely to ARM processors in the next 1-2 years.

With a clock frequency of 3.7 GHz and a turbo of 4.5 GHz (4.9 GHz on one CPU core), the Intel Core i5-12600K clocks much higher than comparable hybrid chip designs. Intel has equipped the processor with a TDP of 125 watts, and the processor can even accept 150 watts for a short time.

For the first time, the 12th generation of Intel Core i processors now also supports DDR5 main memory. The official maximum is DDR5-4800, but higher clock frequencies of the working memory are also possible via the XMP 3.0 profile. Of course, the main memory can also be overclocked manually without an XMP profile. However, Intel has significantly upgraded the XMP 3.0 profile, several profiles are now allowed.

The Intel Core i5-12600K is manufactured in a 10 nm process at Intel, which is similar to the 7 nm manufacturing process at TSMC.
