Description of the processor

The Intel Core i5-12500 is a desktop processor from Intels 12th generation of the Core i 5 series. It was launched in the first quarter of 2022 and is intended to serve the mass market as a mid-range processor. The processor is manufactured with a structure width of 10 nanometers and is based on the Alder Lake S architecture. It can be used on all mainboards that have the LGA 1700 socket and it supports Intels virtualization technologies VT-x, VT-x EPT and VT-d.

The Intel Core i5-12500 is equipped with 6 cores, all of which support Hyperthreading technology, which means that 12 computing threads are available if required. The cores have a base clock frequency of 3.00 gigahertz and can increase to up to 4.60 gigahertz in turbo mode. However, this clock rate is only possible when a single core is utilized. If all cores are utilized at the same time, this still achieves a clock frequency of 4.00 gigahertz per core.

With the Intel UHD Graphics 770, the Intel Core i5-12500 has an internal graphics unit of the eleventh generation from Intels iGPU program. This graphics unit clocks at 0.30 gigahertz, but can increase its clock rate to up to 1.45 gigahertz in turbo mode. It has 32 execution units with a total of 256 shader units and, like the processor, is manufactured using the 10-nanometer process. The iGPU achieves a solid FP32 computing power of 742 GigaFLOPS.

Of course, the Intel Core i5-12500 can also be operated with a dedicated graphics card. For this purpose, the processor is equipped with 20 PCI Express lines in version 5.0, which can of course also be used to connect other expansion cards.

The processor has 2 memory channels via which up to 128 gigabytes of RAM can be operated. The Intel Core i5-12500 supports the following memory types: DDR4-3200 or DDR5-4800. Memory with automatic error correction (ECC memory) is not supported.
