Description of the processor

The Intel Core i5-12600 was released in the first quarter of 2022 and is designed for the desktop PC segment. A mainboard with the LGA 1700 socket is required to install the Intel Core i5-12600. The processor is manufactured with a structure width of 10 nanometers and is based on the Alder Lake S architecture.

The Intel Core i5-12600 has a level 2 cache of 7.50 megabytes and a level 3 cache of 18.00 megabytes. It has 6 physical cores and supports Intels Hyperthreading technology, which means that up to 16 threads are available if required and depending on the application. The 6 cores, codenamed Golden Cove, have a base clock frequency of 3.30 gigahertz and the maximum turbo clock of the cores is 4.80 gigahertz. The CPU cannot be overclocked, so a model with a K in the model name is required.

The single-core performance of the Intel Core i5-12600 is on par with the i7 and i9 models of the same generation. The difference is then evident in the multi-core performance, here the i5 processor is significantly behind the larger models of the 12th generation due to the lower number of cores.

The Intel Core i5-12600 has an internal graphics unit, the Intel UHD Graphics 770 is used here. This iGPU was launched in the first quarter of 2022 and, like the processor, is also manufactured using the 10-nanometer process. It clocks at 0.30 gigahertz and can increase this clock rate to up to 1.45 gigahertz in turbo mode. It has 32 execution units with 256 shader units and thus achieves an FP32 computing power (single precision) of 742 gigaflops.

When it comes to RAM, the Intel Core i5-12600 supports DDR4-3200 modules or the newer DDR5-4800 generation. Up to 128 gigabytes of RAM can be controlled via the 2 available memory channels.
