Description of the processor

The AMD Ryzen 7 4700U is an 8-core mobile processor from AMD. The APU, called "Renoir", is based on the Zen 2 CPU design and also includes an internal AMD Radeon 7 Graphics type graphics card. The processor can clock its 8 cores with up to 3.4 GHz, whereby the processors base clock is 2.0 GHz. For applications that can only use one CPU core, the cores clock rate is up to 4.1 GHz.

The AMD Ryzen 7 4700U has a TDP of 15 watts, but can also be operated with 10 watts or 35 watts. Particularly in the 35 watt configuration, significant speed increases of up to 50% are possible compared to 15 watt operation. Here it depends on the notebook manufacturer, which configuration of the APU he uses. Unfortunately, the TDP configuration is usually not documented and thus hardly visible for the buyer.

Up to 32 GB DDR4-3200 working memory is supported in two working memory banks. The system achieves a maximum memory bandwidth of 68.3 GB per second. In order to store data efficiently, the AMD Ryzen 7 4700U has an 8 MB Level 3 cache. AMD was able to significantly improve the latencies when accessing the cache with the Zen 2 design compared to the predecessor architecture.

The internal graphics of the AMD Radeon 7 Graphics type has 7 execution units and 448 shaders. The iGPU is now also manufactured in the efficient 7 nm manufacturing process, which has allowed AMD to increase the clock rates. Specifically, up to 1.6 GHz is possible for the iGPU clock in the AMD Ryzen 7 4700U, which enables an FP32 computing performance of 1433 GFLOPS. The internal graphics can access up to 16 GB of working memory, which is used as graphics memory.

The Renoir mobile processors were introduced in the 1st quarter of 2020, but really available products have only been available in the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2020.
