V-Ray CPU-Render Benchmark

V-Ray is a 3D rendering software from the manufacturer Chaos for designers and artists. Unlike many other render engines, V-Ray is capable of so-called hybrid rendering, in which the CPU and GPU work together at the same time.

However, the CPU benchmark we used (CPU Render Mode) only uses the system's processor. The working memory used plays a major role in the V-Ray benchmark. For our benchmarks we use the fastest RAM standard approved by the manufacturer (without overclocking).

Due to the high compatibility of V-Ray (including Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, SketchUp, Unreal Engine and Blender), it is a frequently used software. With V-Ray, for example, photorealistic images can be rendered that laypeople cannot distinguish from normal photos.

Benchmarks

With the Intel Core i7-1165G7, Intel has a fast 4-core mobile processor with Hyper-Threading (support for 8 threads) on offer. It is built into mid-range notebooks and is based on the Intel Tiger Lake architecture. The processor clocks its 4 CPU cores with 2.8 GHz in the base and up to 4.1 GHz when all CPU cores are loaded. 4.7 GHz is possible under load on just one CPU core.

With the Intel Iris Xe Graphics 96 (Tiger Lake G7), the Intel Core i7-1165G7 is currently the fastest and largest version of Intels new Iris Xe graphics. The Intel Core i7-1165G7 is an APU, i.e. processor and graphics chip are on one package. Therefore, an external (dedicated) graphics card is not absolutely necessary.

The Intel Iris Xe Graphics 96 (Tiger Lake G7) clocks at up to 1.3 GHz, has 96 execution units and 768 shaders. This results in a (for an iGPU) good computing power of approx. 2 TFLOPS (FP32, single accuracy). The new and free video codec AV1 is already decoded by the graphics card via hardware. The AV1 video codec will replace h.265 / HEVC as well as Googles VP8 / VP9 in the long term. It is therefore important to support the new AV1 codec.

The Intel Core i7-1165G7 can connect up to 64 GB RAM of the type DDR4-3200 or LPDDR4x-4266. The processor can use two memory channels to double the memory bandwidth. The internal graphics also benefit from this, as they use part of the main memory as graphics memory.

As a 15 watt processor, the Intel Core i7-1165G7 is suitable for smaller and thin notebooks. If the notebook has a good cooling solution, it can also be operated with up to 28 watts. The processor can even consume 64 watts for a short time. The CPU performance is heavily dependent on the energy consumption and the cooling solution.

Leaderboards

In our leaderboards, we have clearly compiled the best processors for specific categories for you. The leaderboards are always up to date and are regularly updated by us. The best processors are selected according to popularity and speed in benchmarks as well as the price-performance ratio.
