Description of the processor

With the AMD Ryzen 5 7520U, AMD offers a 4-core mobile processor for the lower notebook segment. Although the naming suggests that it is the current production with "Zen 4" CPU cores from AMD, this is not the case. The AMD Ryzen 5 7520U still uses "Zen 2" CPU cores, which are much slower and also more energy-hungry than the current cores.

After all, the AMD Ryzen 5 7520U supports AMDs simultaneous multithreading technology and can therefore process up to 2 threads per CPU core at the same time. Overall, the 4-core processor has the ability to process 8 threads.

The base clock frequency of the AMD Ryzen 5 7520U is 2.8 GHz, with turbo up to 4.3 GHz on a CPU core. You also have to cut back on the integrated graphics unit. AMD installs the Radeon 610M as the iGPU, which only has two execution units with a total of 128 texture shaders. The graphics performance is therefore a low 0.4 TFLOPS, which is not enough to play reasonably current games smoothly.

However, both the CPU and the iGPU performance of the AMD Ryzen 5 7520U are absolutely sufficient for video playback, simple office tasks or even surfing the web. The hardware of the iGPU can accelerate all modern video codecs, including the newer and free AV1 codec, and therefore requires little energy for video playback.

The manufacturer can solder up to 16 GB of LPDDR5-5500 RAM onto the mainboard. LPDDR5 cannot be expanded later, so you should buy a sufficient amount of RAM (min. 8 GB) when you buy the notebook.

The memory bandwidth is a decent 44 GB per second, the TDP of the processor is 15 watts, but it can also be operated with only 8 watts in "TDP-Down" mode. It is therefore also suitable for passive cooling solutions without a CPU fan.
