Monero Hashrate kH/s

The crypto currency Monero has been using the RandomX algorithm since November 2019. This PoW (proof of work) algorithm can only efficiently be calculated using a processor (CPU) or a graphics card (GPU). The CryptoNight algorithm was used for Monero until November 2019, but it could be calculated using ASICs. RandomX benefits from a high number of CPU cores, cache and a fast connection of the memory via as many memory channels as possible. Tested with XMRig v6.x under the operation system HiveOS.

The AMD Ryzen 5 5600X is a 6-core processor of the new Ryzen 5xxx series from AMD. It supports SMT and can process 12 threads at the same time. In the processor, the new Zen 3 CPU cores (Vermeer) from AMD are used, which have a further increase in computing power per clock (IPC). The AMD Ryzen 5 5600X is manufactured in an improved 7 nm process by the contract manufacturer TSMC. The new 7 nm process enables higher clock frequencies with low energy consumption at the same time.

The AMD Ryzen 5 5600X has a 32 MB L3 cache. The processor does not have an internal graphics (iGPU). A dedicated graphics solution is therefore also required for normal operation. By the way, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X still fits into the AM4 socket, which AMD has been using for many years. With Zen 4, there will be a new socket with DDR5 support in 2021.

Since the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X has an open multiplier, it can be overclocked relatively easily. Many mainboards even offer predefined profiles that can be used to automatically overclock. The AMD Ryzen 5 5600X is specified with a TDP of 95 watts. The cooling solution should be able to dissipate 150 watts of waste heat when overclocking. Many air coolers or AIO water cooling can do this without any problems.

The AMD Ryzen 5 5600X can address up to 128 GB of DDR4-3200 RAM in two memory channels. The use of main memory in dual-channel requires at least two memory modules and doubles the theoretical memory bandwidth.

Like its predecessor, the AMD Ryzen 5 3600, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X also supports PCIe 4.0 with up to 20 lines and can quickly connect dedicated graphics cards or fast M.2 SSDs.
