News and articles for the AMD Ryzen 5 1600X

Description of the processor

The AMD Ryzen 5 1600X is a first generation processor in the AMD Ryzen 5 family and comes from the desktop segment of AMDs CPU program. The AMD Ryzen 5 1600X came onto the market in the first quarter of 2017 and is manufactured in a structure width of 14 nanometers in a monolithic chip design. The processor is equipped with a 16.00 megabyte level 3 cache and requires a motherboard with the AM4 socket.

The processor, based on the Summit Ridge architecture, consists of six identical physical processor cores and supports hyperthreading technology, with which the six physical cores can become up to 12 logical cores if necessary. The processors base clock speed is 3.30 gigahertz, but this can increase to up to 3.70 gigahertz in turbo mode. However, this maximum clock rate is only achieved when a single core is used to its maximum capacity. If all cores are fully utilized at the same time, the maximum turbo clock rate is still 3.50 gigahertz. If you have installed appropriate processor cooling, you can also overclock the processor and thus achieve significantly higher clock speeds.

An internal graphics unit is not integrated into the AMD Ryzen 5 1600X, so it must be operated with a dedicated graphics card. In order to connect this to the processor, it has 20 PCI Express lanes in version 3.0. The bandwidth of these PCIe lanes is 19.7 GB/s.

The AMD Ryzen 5 1600X is equipped with 2 memory channels, making it capable of using dual-channel mode. It can be operated with up to 64 gigabytes of RAM, and AMD specifies DDR4-2666 modules as the official memory type. These modules achieve a maximum memory bandwidth of 42.7 GB/s. A big advantage of the AMD Ryzen 5 1600X over comparable Intel processors is that this processor also supports RAM modules with automatic error correction (ECC memory).
