The Intel Core i7-4960X, an Ivy Bridge E generation processor, was a mainstay in the high-end segment of its era. Manufactured using the then-state-of-the-art 22-nanometer process, this chip offered a solid foundation for demanding applications. Its Extreme designation already indicated its then focus on demanding gaming.

With a generous Level 3 cache of 15 MB, it enabled quick access to frequently needed data. A maximum memory bandwidth of 60 GB/s also contributed to overall good system performance. We see that the Intel Core i7-4960X can still be a quite usable basis for many specific tasks even today. It supported the PCIe 3.0 standard.

This was important at the time for the expandability of components. This processor was designed for stability and a long service life. The advanced architecture and its high computing power made it a popular choice among users.
