Description of the processor

The market launch of the AMD FX-8350 took place in the fourth quarter of 2012. It is an octa-core processor, i.e. a processor with 8 physical cores, from AMD. The AMD FX-8350 is manufactured in the 32-nanometer process and is based on the AMD architecture called "Vishera". Vishera is a revised "Buldozer architecture", whose piledriver cores offer a slightly improved per megahertz performance.

The AMD FX-8350s base clock frequency is 4.00 gigahertz per core and the maximum turbo frequency is 4.20 gigahertz (single-core workload) or 4.10 gigahertz (multi-core workload). The processor does not support Hyperthreading, but has a free multiplier and can thus be overclocked. However, a correspondingly high-quality cooling of the processor is required for overclocking. For example, a processor cooler from Noctua or BeQuiet could be used here. The selected cooler has to be suitable for the socket AM3+.

The processor does not have an integrated graphics unit, so a dedicated graphics card has to be installed in any case. You can currently choose between a Radeon graphics card from AMD or a GeForce graphics card from Nvidia.

The AMD FX-8350 relies on DDR3 memory modules with a maximum clock rate of 1866 megahertz. The processor has a total of 2 memory channels with which the DDR3 working memory is controlled. Unusual for a processor of this price range is that working memory with automatic error correction, so-called ECC memory, is also supported.

AMD processors of this generation have a high performance, but also a very high power consumption in return. AMD specifies a TDP of 125 watts for the AMD FX-8350, which indicates a not too low power consumption.
