Description of the processor

With the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, AMD has launched its most popular game processor for the third time. Although there is an even faster Ryzen 7 processor with the AMD Ryzen 7 3800X, the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X should still be the best-selling model. The 8 core processor supports Hyper-Threading and thus provides 16 logical processors. For the first time, a single 8-core CPU chiplet is used. High latencies in internal communication, which still plagued the 2nd generation of Ryzen 7 processors, are a thing of the past.

Many games still only support 2, 3 or 4 cores today. Therefore, a good game processor not only has to have at least 4-6 cores, but also has to be able to clock them as high as possible. High clock frequencies are no problem for the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X: 4.0 GHz all-core turbo or 4.4 GHz single-core turbo are also easily sufficient for fast AAA games.

The AMD Ryzen 7 3700X is extremely clock-friendly with sufficient cooling. Overclocking to 4.6-4.8 GHz shouldnt be a problem with most CPUs. A powerful air cooler or AIO water cooling is then recommended. The CPU is based on the Zen 2 architecture and forms a good mix of performance and efficiency.

Main memory is officially supported up to DDR4-3200, but significantly higher clock frequencies of the main memory are also possible. AMD specifies the TDP of the processor as only 65 watts. Most mainboards give the processor a little more room for improvement by default, so that the multicore turbo is always present as possible.

The AMD Ryzen 7 3700X was released in the 3rd quarter of 2019 at a price of around 325 euros. The CPU has a 32 MB level 3 cache and, like all Zen 2 processors, supports PCIe 4.0 for the first time.
