Description of the processor

The AMD Ryzen 5 2600 processor has 6 CPU cores and is based on AMDs optimized Zen+ architecture (Pinnacle Ridge). Its base clock is 3.4 GHz, and the processor can clock all cores up to 3.7 GHz as needed. The maximum clock rate under single-core load is 3.9 GHz.

Hyper-Threading technology allows the processor to report 12 logical processors to the operating system. Hyper-Threading uses gaps in the sequence of instruction chains and fills them up in an optimized way. Thus, the performance can be increased enormously depending on the application.

The AMD Ryzen 5 2600 is a popular gaming processor because it offers an excellent price-performance ratio. The processors high clock rates are also relatively useful in games, because many games still do not scale well with the number of cores. Overclockers will also get their moneys worth with the AMD Ryzen 5 2600, because the processor can be easily overclocked thanks to a free multiplier. It is also very fast (assuming sufficient cooling).

Working memory is supported up to DDR4-2933, and significantly higher clock rates of the memory are also possible in OC mode. It has 2 memory channels and therefore supports dual-channel mode, in which the memory bandwidth is doubled. The memory error correction ECC is supported by the AMD Ryzen 5 2600, but the motherboard must then also support the ECC correction. Since ECC is still not very common in the private sector, many motherboard manufacturers neglect ECC support.

The AMD Ryzen 5 2600 fits into the AM4 socket and has 16 MB Level 3 cache. Its TDP is listed at 65 watts. This can also be exceeded permanently in Turbo mode. If the processor is overclocked, the TDP is also significantly higher than the 65 watts.

The AMD Ryzen 5 2600 was introduced in the 2nd quarter of 2018 at a price of just under 200 Euros.
