Geekbench 6 (Single-Core)

Geekbench 6 is a benchmark for modern computers, notebooks and smartphones. What is new is an optimized utilization of newer CPU architectures, e.g. based on the big.LITTLE concept and combining CPU cores of different sizes. The single-core benchmark only evaluates the performance of the fastest CPU core, the number of CPU cores in a processor is irrelevant here.

Description of the processor

The AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT is a 12-core (24 threads) desktop processor from AMD. It was presented in the 2nd quarter of 2020 as one of three "Matisse Refresh" processors. Matisse Refresh processors have a clock rate that is 100 to 200 MHz higher than that of the normal Zen 2 desktop processors.

The AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT clocks its 12 CPU cores with 4.6 GHz, whereby the clock frequency can be increased to up to 4.7 GHz on just one core during load. The processors base clock is a high 4.1 GHz.

The processor has a 64 MB level 3 cache and is already manufactured in a very energy-efficient 7 nm manufacturing process. Together with a suitable mainboard, the processor already supports the new PCIe 4.0 generation, which doubles the data rate in contrast to PCIe 3.0.

Overclocking the AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT is possible. Despite a TDP of 105 watts, sufficient cooling is required to overclock the processor. Good coolers can dissipate 200 watts and more.

The AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT supports up to 128 GB of RAM of the DDR4-3200 type (officially, but much higher clock frequencies of the RAM are also possible). The dual-channel mode for doubling the memory bandwidth is supported by the processor. At least two main memory modules are required for this.

On request, the AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT also supports ECC error correction in the main memory. To do this, the processor, mainboard and main memory must support ECC. ECC is used on workstations or servers to increase data integrity and to identify and correct errors in the storage system.

Like all Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) desktop processors, the AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT does not have an internal graphics unit (iGPU). Modern virtualization (AMD-V, SEV) and encryption functions (AES) are supported by the processor.
