Description of the processor

The Intel Core i7-7700 is a quad-core desktop processor from Intel. With its fast processors, the Intel Core i7 family is aimed at gamers and professional users. The Intel Core i7-7700 has a clock frequency of 3.6 GHz. In turbo mode, the processor can increase its clock frequency up to 4.2 GHz.

The Intel Hyperthreading Technology is supported by the Intel Core i7-7700. It can process up to two threads per CPU core, a total of 8 threads are possible at the same time. The processor is therefore also suitable for calculation-intensive multi-core applications.

The Intel HD Graphics 630 is used as the integrated graphics in the Intel Core i7-7700. This graphics card has very little computing power and, with its 24 execution units and 192 texture shaders, is only suitable for undemanding games in medium to low resolutions. The iGPU is mainly used for image output and is absolutely sufficient for office work.

More demanding users or gamers should rely on an additional, dedicated graphics card that can be connected to the Intel Core i7-7700 via PCIe 3.0 with 16 PCIe lines. This is absolutely sufficient even for more modern graphics cards.

The Intel Core i7-7700 supports up to 64 GB of RAM (DDR4-2400) in two memory channels and up to 4 modules. At least two modules are required to use the dual channel. ECC memory is no longer supported by the Intel Kaby Lake generation and is reserved for the more expensive Intel Xeon server processors.

The TDP of the Intel Core i7-7700 is 65 watts, but in turbo mode with higher clock frequencies, the power consumption can be well over 65 watts.

The manufacturing technology is 14 nm at Intel. The Intel Core i7-7700 fits into socket 1151 and has 8 MB level 3 cache.
