Description of the processor

The dual-core processor Intel Core i5-7200U comes from the 7th generation of the Intel Core i5 series and has a base clock rate of 2.50 gigahertz. The clock rate can be increased to up to 3.10 gigahertz both when a single core is loaded and when both cores are loaded using turbo mode.

The “U” at the end of the processor designation indicates that the CPU was designed for use in mobile computers (laptops / notebooks).

The processor was released in the fourth quarter of 2016 and the fact that the Intel Core i5-7200U was often and gladly installed can also be seen from the fact that the processor was most frequently accessed on www.cpu-monkey.com. With over 1,000,000 calls, the processor is lonely at the top.

The fact that the Intel Core i5-7200U is an extremely energy-saving model can also be seen from the very low TDP of only 15 watts. This is necessary for a processor built into a mobile device so that the battery lasts as long as possible. In addition, there is only limited space in a laptop to optimally cool a processor and the lower the TDP, the lower the heat development.

These properties are of course not only used in mobile computers, they are also extremely popular with mini PCs, as there is also a lack of space here and only limited cooling is possible. An example for the use of the Intel Core i5-7200U is e.g. the ASUS VivoMini UN65U.

With the internal graphics unit Intel HD Graphics 620, a GPU is also integrated in the processor, which makes an additional graphics card superfluous. However, this is only sufficient for very simple games or graphics applications.

Another advantage of the Intel Core i5-7200U is that the CPU can both decode and encode the HEVC codec (also called h.265) in hardware. This means that all video files created with this codec can be played without any problems.
