Description of the processor

The AMD Ryzen 7 4800U is an 8-core processor of AMD. By supporting hyper-threading technology, the processor can process up to 16 threads at the same time. The AMD Ryzen 7 4800U is intended for small and professional notebooks. Its 8 cores clocks the CPU with 1.8 GHz into the base, but can lift this cycle to up to 3.2 GHz for all cores or 4.2 GHz if necessary.

The base of the AMD Ryzen 7 4800U forms the new AMD Renoir APU design, which is based again on Zen 2 design. The APU is manufactured as well as all other Zen 2 processors from AMD in the 7 nm method and is therefore very energy efficient.

As an internal graphics card, an AMD Radeon VEGA 8 is used in AMD Ryzen 7 4800U with 8 GPU nuclei (or execution units) with 512 texture shades. The IGPU may clock with up to 1.75 GHz. Thus, the GPU should also be used for newer games in resolutions of a maximum of 1920x1080 (Full HD). The maximum graphics performance with simple accuracy lies according to AMD at 1792 GFlops.

The AMD Ryzen 7 4800U is classified with 15 watts TDP, but AMD also allows throttling to 10 watts or an increase in TDP up to 25 watts. The Level 3 cache of the processor is 8 MB. RAM is supported up to the standard DDR4-3200 or LPDDR4-4266 with a maximum memory amount of 32 GB.

Since the internal graphics card is very much benefiting from a quick memory, it is advisable to ensure that the fastest possible memory was installed. If possible, the main memory is divided into two modules, because the AMD Ryzen 7 4800U supports the dual channel mode for doubling the memory bandwidth. Maximum, the processor then comes to a memory bandwidth of 68.3 GB per second.
