The AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS is a processor that belongs to the sixth generation of the AMD Ryzen 9 family. The AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS chip design is monolithic and it is based on AMDs Phoenix (Zen 4) architecture. The level 2 cache of the processor is 8.00 megabytes in size and the level 3 cache is exactly twice as large at 16.00 megabytes.

The AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS has 8 identical Zen 4 processor cores. The base clock frequency of the cores is 4.00 gigahertz and the maximum turbo clock of the cores is 5.20 gigahertz. Since it is a processor from the mobile segment, the CPU cannot be overclocked. However, the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS supports Hyperthreading technology, which turns the 8 physical cores into up to 18 computing threads if required.

An internal graphics unit is integrated in the processor with the AMD Radeon 780M Graphics. This iGPU was released together with the processor in the first quarter of 2023 and is also manufactured with a structure width of 4 nanometers. The standard clock frequency of the graphics unit is 1.20 gigahertz, which can be increased to up to 2.70 gigahertz in turbo mode. The AMD Radeon 780M Graphics has 12 execution units with 768 shaders and achieves an FP32 computing power of 4300 GigaFLOPS. In addition, the graphics unit is able to use up to 32 gigabytes of the RAM installed in the system.

Together with the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS, up to 256 gigabytes of DDR5-5600 or LPDDR5X-7500 RAM can be operated. The main memory is connected via 2 memory channels and can achieve a maximum memory bandwidth of 89.6 GB/s. In addition, the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS supports the operation of memory with automatic error correction (ECC memory).
