The Intel Celeron G1840, based on the Haswell architecture, was introduced in mid-2014 and targeted entry-level desktop systems.

It was manufactured using the 22 nm process and features 2 CPU cores and 2 threads. The integrated graphics unit is the Intel HD Graphics (Haswell GT1). The maximum memory bandwidth is 21 GB/s, supported via PCIe 3.0. With a 2 MB Level 3 cache, it is designed for basic tasks such as web browsing, word processing, and media playback.

Its single-core performance in Cinebench R23 is present. Power consumption is typical for a desktop processor of this generation. It is primarily found in older or used systems. The Intel Processor N100, introduced in early 2023, is based on the modern Alder Lake N architecture and is intended for ultra-energy-efficient systems like mini-PCs or thin clients.

Manufactured using the more advanced 10 nm process (Intel 7), it offers 4 CPU cores and 4 threads, all designed as efficiency cores. The integrated graphics, Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake), benefits from a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s and supports PCIe 3.0. It features a 4 MB Level 2 cache and a 6 MB Level 3 cache.

Its single-core performance in Cinebench R23, as well as its multi-core performance, are significantly higher. Its extremely low TDP enables fanless designs and saves energy. The Intel Processor N100 shows significantly higher single-core performance than the Intel Celeron G1840.

In Cinebench R23, the N100 achieves more than 10 percent higher single-core performance. In multi-core applications, the Intel Processor N100 also significantly outperforms the Intel Celeron G1840, as it has twice as many cores and a more modern architecture. Neither processor is designed for demanding gaming.

However, with its Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake), the Intel Processor N100 offers a much more modern and powerful integrated graphics unit than the Intel HD Graphics (Haswell GT1) of the Intel Celeron G1840. The N100's higher memory bandwidth further supports graphics performance, making it better suited for very light or older games.

The Intel Celeron G1840 has a significantly higher Thermal Design Power (TDP), which entails higher power consumption and greater cooling requirements. In contrast, the Intel Processor N100 is characterized by an extremely low TDP, making it ideal for energy-efficient systems and passive cooling concepts.

The Intel Celeron G1840 is an older model mainly found on the used market or in legacy systems, which means its price-performance ratio is rather low for current requirements. The Intel Processor N100, on the other hand, offers a good price-performance ratio for its target group of energy-efficient mini-PCs and thin clients, as it provides modern features and low power consumption at a competitive price.

For a modern, energy-efficient system with better overall performance and graphics performance, the Intel Processor N100 is the clear choice. The Intel Celeron G1840 is only useful for operating existing legacy systems or as an extremely cost-effective replacement solution.
