Intel Core i7-12800H vs Apple M4

Last updated:
The Intel Core i7-12800H, a mobile processor based on the Alder Lake H architecture, was launched in 2022.

Manufactured on a 10 nm process for powerful Windows laptops, it uses a hybrid architecture with 12 MB L2 and 24 MB L3 cache, as well as 83 GB/s memory bandwidth. The integrated Intel Iris Xe Graphics 96 (Alder Lake) supports general graphics requirements and offers solid single-core and multi-core performance for productivity.

The Apple M4 is Apple's most advanced mobile processor, introduced in 2024 for premium devices like the iPad Pro.

It is manufactured on a 3 nm process, which leads to superior energy efficiency. With 20 MB L2 cache and 120 GB/s memory bandwidth, it is well-equipped. Its integrated Apple M4 (10 Core) GPU is significantly more powerful. In benchmarks, the M4 noticeably surpasses the Intel in single-core tasks and offers very good multi-core performance for creative applications.

In a performance comparison, the Apple M4 is clearly superior in single-core performance. Multi-core performance is comparable, with a slight advantage for the M4. For gaming and graphics-intensive tasks, the Apple M4 (10 Core) GPU offers significantly more power. The M4 is also much more energy-efficient, leading to lower power consumption.

A direct price-performance comparison is difficult, as the Intel is built into a variety of laptops, while the M4 is exclusively used in Apple's integrated devices. The Intel Core i7-12800H is suitable for users looking for a versatile Windows system. The Apple M4 is the better choice for maximum single-core and graphics performance with the highest energy efficiency within the Apple ecosystem, especially for creative professionals.
