Raspberry Pi 4 B (Broadcom BCM2711) vs Intel Celeron J4105

Last updated:
The Intel Celeron J4105 (Gemini Lake) is designed for energy-efficient mini-PCs and embedded systems. The Raspberry Pi 4 B (Broadcom BCM2711, Cortex-A72) forms the core of the Raspberry Pi 4 B single-board computer for education, IoT, and hobby projects.

The Intel Celeron J4105 is manufactured using a 14 nm process, with four cores, four threads, and 4 MB of L3 cache. The Broadcom BCM2711 uses a 28 nm process, also offering four cores without Hyper-Threading and 1 MB of L2 cache. The Intel Celeron J4105 shows significantly higher single-core and solid multi-core performance.

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 600 (38 GB/s memory bandwidth) surpasses the BCM2711's Broadcom VideoCore VI (13 GB/s memory bandwidth) for basic graphics tasks. Both are unsuitable for demanding gaming. The J4105 has a TDP of approximately 10 watts. The BCM2711 is extremely energy-efficient; the entire Raspberry Pi 4 B only requires 5 to 8 watts under load.

The J4105, mostly found in complete systems, offers good performance for desktop tasks and NAS with PCIe 2.0. As part of the Raspberry Pi 4 B, the BCM2711 is extremely cost-effective, ideal for IoT, education, and flexible mini-servers that prioritize adaptability and low consumption.
