Microsoft XBox Series X vs Apple M4

Last updated:
The Microsoft Xbox Series X processor, manufactured by AMD in 7 nm on Zen 2 ("Renoir") architecture, is the heart of the Xbox Series X console and optimized for gaming. It features eight cores. The Apple M4, manufactured by Apple in an advanced 3 nm process, is an SoC with up to ten CPU cores, designed for energy-efficient high-performance computing devices.

In terms of performance comparison, the Microsoft Xbox Series X processor shows significantly higher performance for parallel computations in the Cinebench R23 Multi-Core Benchmark. The Apple M4 stands out with very high single-core performance in Geekbench 6 and Cinebench 2024 and also offers strong multi-core performance where direct comparisons to the Xbox processor are not possible.

For gaming scenarios, the Xbox Series X processor is clearly superior due to its high memory bandwidth of 560 GB/s and the customized AMD Custom Radeon Graphics (Xbox Series X). This architecture is optimized for games and enables good AI performance. The Apple M4 with its Apple M4 (10 Core) graphics unit is versatile but not primarily designed for the dedicated gaming performance of a console.

Neither the Xbox Series X processor nor the Apple M4 are available as standalone products, which complicates a direct price-performance evaluation. Their energy efficiency and thermal design are an integral part of their respective platforms.
