Intel Core i7-3770K vs Intel Processor N100

Last updated:
The Intel Core i7-3770K, based on the Ivy Bridge S architecture, was introduced around 2012 for the mainstream desktop market and overclocking enthusiasts.

Manufactured using the 22 nm process, it offers 4 cores and 8 threads with 8 MB of Level 3 Cache (Level 2 Cache 0 MB). It utilizes PCIe 3.0 and features an integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000, which is not designed for demanding games but forms a solid gaming foundation with a dedicated graphics card.

In older single-core applications, it can achieve good performance, while its multi-core performance is surpassed in certain newer benchmarks. Its maximum memory bandwidth is 26 GB/s, and its TDP is 77W, which means higher energy consumption. It is only available on the used market and requires an older platform.

The Intel Processor N100, with its modern Alder Lake N architecture, was later designed for energy-efficient systems and mini-PCs.

It is manufactured using the more advanced 10 nm process and offers 4 cores and 4 threads, equipped with 4 MB of Level 2 Cache and 6 MB of Level 3 Cache. Thanks to its efficient architecture, it significantly surpasses the Intel Core i7-3770K in single- and multi-core performance in many modern benchmarks.

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) is more current but also not intended for demanding gaming. Its maximum memory bandwidth is 38 GB/s. With an extremely low TDP of 6W, it is highly power-efficient and enables fanless or very compact systems. It is primarily offered as a soldered component in inexpensive complete systems.

For users who want to upgrade an older LGA 1155 system or use specific older applications that benefit from higher core frequencies and 8 threads, the Intel Core i7-3770K could be an option. The Intel Processor N100, on the other hand, is the ideal choice for systems where maximum energy efficiency, quiet operation, and low heat dissipation are crucial, such as for office applications, media playback, or thin clients.
