Apple M3 vs Apple M5 (10-CPU)

Last updated:
Apple M3 and Apple M5 (10-CPU) are desktop processors developed by Apple, aiming for energy efficiency and high performance.

The Apple M3 has already been released and targets a wide range of users, while the Apple M5 (10-CPU), as a future development, will mark the pinnacle of performance in the M-series. Both CPUs are manufactured using the advanced 3-nm fabrication process and utilize PCIe 4.0.

The Apple M5 (10-CPU) is equipped with ten CPU cores and surpasses the Apple M3 in single-core performance by more than 35 percent. For multi-core tasks, the Apple M5 (10-CPU) shows an even more significant lead of over 50 percent compared to the Apple M3. This is supported by 28 MB of L2 cache and a maximum memory bandwidth of 154 GB/s on the Apple M5 (10-CPU), while the Apple M3 offers 20 MB of L2 cache and 102 GB/s bandwidth.

In gaming scenarios and graphics-intensive applications, the Apple M5 (10-CPU) benefits from this higher computing and memory performance of its integrated Apple M5 (10 Core) graphics. Regarding energy efficiency, both 3-nm chips offer excellent performance per watt. However, the Apple M5 (10-CPU) will have a higher TDP under full load to deliver its increased computing power.

In terms of price, the Apple M3 positions itself as an excellent value for money for demanding users. The Apple M5 (10-CPU) is expected to serve a higher price segment and is intended for users who require the best possible uncompromised performance for professional workflows.
