Apple M3 vs Apple M4 (10-CPU)

Last updated:
Introduced in late 2023, the Apple M3 targets a wide range of users in Apple devices who seek high energy efficiency and compelling performance for everyday use up to creative applications.

Manufactured using a 3 nm process, its CPU combines 8 cores (4 performance cores, 4 efficiency cores). It offers a memory bandwidth of 102 GB/s and an integrated graphics unit (Apple M3 (10 Core)). In benchmarks, the Apple M3 shows solid single-core performance, but the multi-core unit is lower than that of the Apple M4 (10-CPU).

For gaming, the GPU offers good performance for many titles. The price-performance ratio in devices with the Apple M3 is often very attractive, as they enable a cost-effective entry into the current chip generation. Unveiled in spring 2024, the Apple M4 (10-CPU) aims at Apple's premium devices and is designed for users with the highest demands on performance for professional applications and graphics-intensive tasks.

Also manufactured using a 3 nm process, its CPU integrates 10 cores (4 performance cores, 6 efficiency cores). The memory bandwidth has been increased to 120 GB/s. The internal graphics unit (Apple M4 (10 Core)) offers significantly better performance in gaming scenarios and graphics-intensive applications due to architectural innovations such as hardware-accelerated ray tracing.

Both the single-core performance and the multi-core unit of the Apple M4 (10-CPU) significantly surpass the Apple M3. Despite the higher performance, energy efficiency remains at a very high level. Devices with the Apple M4 (10-CPU) are positioned in the upper price segment and offer peak performance for professionals.
