With the Apple M1, Apple has succeeded in the end of 2020 a large litter: The mobile processor based on the arm command set is fast and economical at the same time. This makes this hybrid core architecture to Big.Little. Very powerful CPU cores are mixed with low-power CPU cores. The smaller CPU cores have a very high efficiency and low energy consumption. These CPU cores then take over the computing operations incurred in the background or help with strong system load the larger CPU cores in the calculation.

The Apple M1 is used in the MacBook Air 2020 and the MacBook Pro 13 2020. Due to the high efficiency of the ARM processors manufactured in 5 Nm, the battery life of the models has almost doubled against the predecessor generation (still with Intel Processor). And even the CPU cooling can be significantly small due to the low heat development, with the MacBook Air 2020, Apple makes the processor even exclusively passively (ie without rotating fan).

The Apple M1x now represents the logical extension of the smaller Apple M1. The Apple M1x now has 8 instead of 4 performance cores, which are again supplemented by 4 more efficiency CPU cores. The clock frequency of the processors is still in the top at 3.2 GHz, but the Apple M1x can maintain this clock frequency longer because the processor is provided with a higher TDP (power loss). Overall, the Apple M1x therefore expects almost twice as fast as the already fixed Apple M1.

Even with the internal graphics unit (IGPU), Apple has once again clearly pressed: The Apple M1x (16 Core) graphic has 256 execution units and comes to a graphic bluh power of more than 5 tflops (FP32, simple accuracy). This is very fast for an internal graphic unit and makes many beginner graphics cards obsolete.
