News and articles for the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X and the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D

Comparison of the two processors

Both the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X and the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D are powerful processors that are suitable for both computer games and more demanding applications. Since many computer games are optimized for game consoles that currently have 8 CPU cores, many games cannot benefit from more than 8 CPU cores.

Both processors rely on AMD's Zen 3 (Vermeer) CPU architecture and are suitable for socket AM4. This socket has been on the market for quite a long time and has already received a successor, the AM5 socket. However, for cost reasons it may still be worthwhile to use the AM4 socket.

Socket AM4 is limited to DDR4 memory and PCIe standard 4.0. Neither represents a bottleneck in 2024. The biggest difference between the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X and the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D is the 3D V-Cache that the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D comes with and which also gives it its product name. Here AMD has connected an additional 64 MB Level 3 cache to the processor using a new manufacturing process, so that it has significantly more buffer memory at 96 MB than the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X with 32 MB Level 3 cache.

This buffer can particularly demonstrate its strengths in CPU-limited computer games. At 3.4 GHz, the clock frequencies of the processors are identical, only in turbo mode does the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X at 4.6 GHz reach a mere 100 MHz more than the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D. The overclocking options for 3D processors are also limited. Since both processors have their sweet spot closer to 65 watts, this shouldn't be too much of a limitation for most users.

The processors can address up to 128 GB of RAM, but are limited to DDR4 memory. The maximum memory bandwidth in dual-channel mode is 51.2 GB/s.
